Overcoming The Legacy Of Slavery

Juneteenth: A Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation

Overcoming the Legacy of Slavery

The Black Liberation Flag will be flown on Sunday, June 19, and on the observed holiday Monday, June 20, over the New York State Capitol. People across the country of all races, nationalities, and religions will unite on this day to truthfully acknowledge the stain of slavery and its ongoing impact on our society.

A Call to Action

One year after President Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday, 26 states have not authorized the funding that would allow for state employees to observe the holiday. This inaction is a reminder of the work that still needs to be done to ensure that the legacy of slavery is truly overcome.

We invite you to join us on June 19 and 20 as we commemorate Juneteenth with a series of events across the state. Together, we can work towards a more just and equitable future for all.
